History

Founded in 2001 as a venture-backed software company. Swingtide has since been transformed to an employee-owned consulting firm with deep expertise in IT sourcing, technology management, and IT finance.

Our methodologies have been developed over many years as senior executives and advisors to large and small companies across industries. For nearly thirty years, the members of the current Swingtide team have worked together in solving technology business and supplier relationship problems.

Our solutions were initially developed out of necessity as a result of challenges we faced when we were in the client chair. From there, we have evolved these Swingtide methodologies through many different experiences over the years. The result is proven methodologies and solutions that address today’s problems.

Swingtide is a U.S. Small Business Association certified Women-Owned Small Business.

Complete Vendor Lifecycle Management

“a holistic approach to vendor lifecycle management, encompassing policies, processes, and tools, training, communication, and continuous improvement practices”

All businesses rely on external relationships. This simple truth is often overlooked by companies regardless of size or industry. To be successful, companies must depend on other businesses, individuals, or other outside parties for products or services, and more specifically, companies must rely on their contracts with these external parties to ensure their business needs are being met.

Even when the dependence on external parties is understood, the relationships aren’t managed with the same diligence as internal relationships. Many organizations do not know what is in their contracts with critical external parties, pay more than the contract requires, don’t comply with their own obligations, can’t find the documents, or just don’t manage the relationship. Ignoring contracts with external parties and the broader relationships they support – or simply choosing not to actively manage them – can have negative repercussions: business-disrupting disputes, constraints on strategic initiatives, regulatory exposure, compliance risk, and higher costs.

Swingtide CVLM provides a holistic approach to the full life cycle of the relationship with the external parties you rely upon. While traditional vendor lifecycle management typically encompasses the contract and how it is filed, Swingtide CVLM’s Complete Lifecycle Management approach includes sourcing, contracting, and vendor management with every step focused on the primary objective to get the most out of your external relationships.

The tool Swingtide has developed to support this approach is Tiri. After an exhaustive search of the market confirmed there were no existing products or combination of products to meet our needs, we developed our own. Most market solutions offered a repository with limited workflow, no support for vendor management, and lacked the needed real-time reporting. None offered the controls needed to maintain data integrity nor provided the security needed to protect the confidentiality across multiple clients. Tiri enhances our service offerings and provides our clients with a unique view into all aspects of their third-party relationships.

Focus On

Healthcare

“In working with healthcare clients, we have seen a need to customize and focus our solutions, acknowledging the complexity, immaturity, pace of change, risk, and critical cost and value challenges that impact this industry and the communities served”
Swingtide has a long history of helping large and small organizations in many industries improve their supplier relationships and transform their IT delivery. In working with healthcare clients, we have seen a need to customize and focus our solutions, acknowledging the complexity, immaturity, pace of change, risk, and critical cost and value challenges that impact this industry and the communities served.

Initially focused on healthcare information technology, the following dynamics within healthcare have led us to expand our offerings to address the lifecycle of all vendor relationships:

  • Information technology and protected data are part of most supplier relationships, including medical equipment and general services. The need to integrate and align solutions is greater than ever before while suppliers perform more strategic functions.
  • Most healthcare organizations are siloed and have struggled with addressing the needed integration between IT and traditional Supply Chain and the complexity to address the new risks that the proliferation of technology presents.
  • Vendor costs are too high or not aligned with business value. Healthcare providers are overspending for services received or for services no longer, or ever, needed.
  • Products and services cross internal organizations and should be managed at the relationship level to maximize the benefits, lever scale, and reduce administrative costs and confusion.
  • Compliance and other risks exist within vendor relationships and are not managed. Contractual obligations are not known or not acted upon and PHI protection, security requirements, and other compliance obligations are not governed.
  • Contract administration and management is inefficient. Activities are typically ad hoc and reactive; knowledge gained is not sustained by processes.

Over the last ten years, we have assisted healthcare providers in everything from the development of vendor lifecycle management functions, competitively sourcing critical solutions, negotiating over 30,000 healthcare contracts with more than 8,000 suppliers, resolving simple and complex disputes, and managing critical vendors.

Our experience in healthcare allows our clients to learn from the experience of others while developing the right solution for their organization.
